Most pages on this site are built with Movable Type. I'm grateful to Matt Haughey and Brad Choate for describing ways to build static pages with MT.
Choate's Textile plugin provides additional text-formatting options and John Gruber's SmartyPants plugin handles all my smart punctuation. The Media page is powered by Adam Kalsey's MTAmazon plugin and Jacob Hesch's BookQueue plugin.
Older pages were hand-coded using TextPad (Windows XP), and BBEdit (Mac OS X).
I use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) when creating my pages. CSS allows greater control over page design and layout than simple HTML. XHTML is simply the future of HTML. Learn it now; it's easy.
Also, credit to Elizabeth Castro, whose HTML 4 Visual QuickStart Guide has saved a lot of asses among my school chums. (I see there's a new edition available; I might check that out.)
Photos are shot using an Olympus StylusEpic Zoom 80 camera. Black-and-whites are photographed on a decade-old Olympus Infinity S. Yes, I take pictures using film. When the film is processed, I have photo CDs made.
Images are cropped and touched up in Photoshop.
