Norwegian DVD hacking case goes to trial. Defendant pleads not guilty [

The Jon Johansen trial began today in Norway. Johansen is charged with cracking the CSS encryption scheme that's used to copy-protect DVDs. Johansen's stated goal in writing deCSS was to enable himself to back up his own, legally purchased, DVDs in case of damage or loss.
With this going on in Norway, the ElcomSoft trial in California, and Eldred before the U.S. Supreme Court, this is an interesting time to watch the courts.
